The First Season of The Magicians premiered on December 16, 2015, and concluded on April 11, 2016, with a total of 13 episodes. The first episode aired as an advance commercial-free preview on December 16, 2015, ahead of the series' double episode premiere on January 25, 2016. Sera Gamble and John McNamara were the executive producers and showrunners.

Synopsis[]

After being recruited to a secretive academy, a group of students discovers that the magic they read about as children is very real and more dangerous than they ever imagined. Will getting hooked on the thrill of magic distract them from honing their powers when they need them most?

  • The first season is based on books written by Lev Grossman. Quentin's story is based on the first book in the series, The Magicians, and Julia's story is based on part of the second book, The Magician King.
  • The set used for Dean Fogg's office after the first season is a recreation of the set used for Season 1, which was in an actual house.
